Stormwater Protection
Protecting stormwater is a top priority in the ACT and is closely monitored by Environment ACT.
- Do not tip oils, paints, solvents or other pollutants onto the ground or down a stormwater drain or any waterway.
- Prevent leaks, spills and wastewater from entering stormwater drains or groundwater through measures such as correct storage of materials and bunding.
- Only wash vehicles and degrease engines in a dedicated undercover wash down bay that drains to an oil separation system and then sewer (with ACTEW approval). Do not wash vehicles with detergents or degreasers in open areas that drain to stormwater.
- Never repair or service vehicles outside the workshop where contaminant spills, such as coolant, oil and other lubricants, could enter the ground or drains.
- Prepare a stormwater drainage plan to help identify safe storage areas and prepare spill response plans.
- Install and regularly clean out silt and litter traps on stormwater drains.
