Managing Noise

Noise is an important OH&S and environmental issue.

The ACT has relatively tough environmental standards for noise, especially outside normal business hours. This audit focuses on impacts on people outside the site.

• Ensure that you do not exceed the acceptable noise levels for your business location and operating hours. (If you are concerned about this issue, Environment ACT can help to determine the levels that apply to your business).

• Where noise is a problem, consider practices such as: avoiding the use of air chisels and other noisy equipment; fitting inlet and exhaust silencers to air compressors; and isolating amplified phone systems outside working hours.
