Managing Air Quality
Staff, customers, neighbouring properties and the environment can all benefit from improved air quality both inside and outside the workshop.
Releasing fine particles, odours and volatile organic compounds to the atmosphere may lead to health risks to humans and cause environmental harm.
- Introduce practices that reduce fumes and capture dust at source, such as: replacing solvent-based parts washers with water-based or enzyme-based washers; keeping lids on solvent containers; regularly replacing or cleaning exhaust fan filters; and damping down (not blowing) brake pads.
- Never burn oily rags and other waste in an incinerator as they can emit toxic fumes. Do not operate an incinerator unless you have permission from Environment ACT.
- Make sure that you meet government requirements related to the safe handling and disposal of asbestos products, including staff training.
